On 17 February the community of Sacred Heart College in Newton, Geelong, gathered for the 2026 Maguire Celebration, which brings together current students and staff, families, alumni and friends of the College. Several Sisters of Mercy were present, and Gabrielle McMullen AM represented the Trustee Directors of Mercy Ministry Companions. Following pre-event refreshments, the Celebration commenced with award presentations interspersed with performances by the College choir, orchestra and alumni. The evening closed with the formal launch of the academic year and announcement of the 2026 College theme, Lead the change. Be the difference.
The Maguire Awards, recognise the achievements of the College’s senior students in academic, vocational, artistic, sporting and community building endeavours and acknowledges their dedication and commitment to living out the College’s Mercy values. Winners in the various categories were recognised in House groups across Clairvaux, Loyola, Padua and Siena.
After the long, dry summer, welcome rain saw the Maguire Celebration moved from the oval to the new College Sports and Wellness Precinct’s Carmel O’Dwyer Centre. Set up as an auditorium, this gathering space comfortably accommodated the 2,000 participants and its state-of-the-art technology enhanced the presentations and entertainment.
