On Sunday, 30 August I had the pleasure of joining members of the Our Lady of Mercy College in Heidelberg community, Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Education staff, alumni and friends for the school’s ninth annual High Tea. The afternoon was held in support of another MMC ministry, McAuley Community Services for Women.
On a glorious spring afternoon, students were waiting at the gates and across the grounds to welcome guests and accompany them to McAuley Hall. Here, tables had been decked out with beautiful cup, saucer and plate sets and we were offered, in the words of Catherine McAuley, “a comfortable cup of tea” or coffee! Students had prepared warm savouries and baked cakes for the high tea; other students waited on the tables.
During the afternoon, representatives from McAuley spoke about the important work they do alongside women and children who have experienced family violence, supporting them on their journey to safety and recovery. The high tea and raffle enabled a generous donation to be presented to McAuley. Thanks to the students and staff of Our Lady of Mercy College, it was an enjoyable and successful afternoon
