Academy of Mary Immaculate Fitzroy

In May, Trustee Director Gabrielle McMullen joined the community of the Academy of Mary Immaculate in Fitzroy for the VCE Drama Ensemble Performance Night. This year’s theme was ‘Discrimination against Asylum Seekers in Australia’.

Following months of preparation and rehearsing under the guidance of their teacher, Ms Grainne O’Boyle, the VCE Drama students did their college proud with moving and professional performances.

The Year 12 students wrote and performed The Faceless Ones and the Year 11 students performed Separate Journeys, Share Trauma. Both productions were based on stories of local asylum seekers recounted in the HOPE Co-Op’s book, The Shape of Hope.

Proceeds from the night were donated to HOPE Co-Op, which supports young men and women from asylum-seeking backgrounds to complete their education and move into sustainable employment.
