iGEN creates opportunities for young and old

iGEN or Intergenerational learning is a partnership between Mercy Health, Australian Catholic University and Catherine McAuley College in Bendigo, Vic. This innovative Program aims to improve quality of life and educational services for both aged care and student participants and contributes to an improved understanding of how positive relationships can impact health and wellbeing.

This Term, under the guidance of Fr DJ, two of the College’s iGEN Year 10 Classes prepared and held Mass for local residents of Mercy Health Bethlehem Home for the Aged and Mercy Place Golden Rise. The residents and students enjoyed spending time together exploring the Chapel before Mass, celebrating the Eucharist and enjoying morning tea.

Earlier in the term, residents from Mercy Place Golden Rise also enjoyed small, personalised tours of the College’s St Mary’s Campus (also in Bendigo) led by Year 10 students, followed by lunch.
