Last month, MMC Trustee Directors enjoyed a trip to Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney. During their visit, the group spent time with staff from MacKillop Seasons, who shared generously about their work and how they continue to support the missions of the three founding congregations.
The Trustee Directors also spent time with Sr Monica Cavanagh RSJ to learn about the history and charism of the Sisters of St Joseph and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Following a lovely morning tea, the group toured the Mary MacKillop Place Museum.
While in Sydney, The Trustee Directors also hosted a dinner for the Institute Leadership Team (ILT) of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG). This was a wonderful opportunity to thank the ILT for their guidance and support in the establishment of Mercy Ministry Companions before the Institute begin their Chapter.
The Chapter of a Religious Institute or Congregation such as ISMAPNG is its highest governing authority. Elected delegates from among the Institute’s members will join the outgoing Institute Leadership team from September 7-17 in Sydney, commencing with a time of prayer and reflection in preparation for the business of the Chapter. The purpose of a Chapter is two-fold: to safeguard and nurture the mission of ISMAPNG in its fidelity to the Gospel and the tradition of Mercy religious life, as we respond to the needs around us, and to elect an Institute Leader and Council. Please keep the sisters in your prayers during this important time.
